Recognition (Nostrification) of Academic Degrees
Postępowanie nostryfikacyjne stopnia doktora, doktora habilitowanego
The Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences, is authorised to conduct proceedings for the recognition (nostrification) of foreign academic degrees (doctoral or post-doctoral (habilitation) degrees) in the field of Natural Sciences, in the discipline of Chemical Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the “recognising institution”).
Recognition (nostrification) is the procedure by which a foreign diploma confirming the award of an academic degree (doctoral or post-doctoral (habilitation) degree) is recognised as equivalent to the corresponding Polish academic degree.
Academic degrees and degrees in the arts conferred by authorised institutions operating outside the European Union (EU), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) or the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), which are not recognised as equivalent under international agreements, are subject to recognition (nostrification) (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571, Article 328)
Recognition (nostrification) proceedings are conducted on the basis of the applicable legal acts (see the Institute’s website) and in accordance with the procedure set out in the Regulations for Conducting the Procedure for the Recognition of Scientific Degrees by the Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences.
Recognition (nostrification) proceedings shall be initiated upon the application of a person seeking recognition (nostrification). The application for recognition of a foreign academic degree as equivalent to the corresponding Polish academic degree shall be submitted to the institution chosen by the applicant and authorised to conduct recognition (nostrification) proceedings. The proceedings shall be conducted by an institution holding a scientific category of A+ or A in the discipline to which the application relates.
Upon the successful completion of the recognition (nostrification) procedure, a certificate is issued confirming that the foreign diploma conferring an academic degree is equivalent to the corresponding Polish diploma conferring the relevant Polish academic degree or degree in the arts (Doctor, Habilitated Doctor, Doctor of the Arts or Habilitated Doctor of the Arts).
The most common reason for applying for the initiation of recognition (nostrification) proceedings is the intention to take up employment at a Polish higher education institution or in a profession for which a specific Polish academic degree is required.
